Teens & young adult therapy

Being a teen or young adult is incredibly challenging, as you carry the pressures of school, work, friendships, and family…and then you add trauma, depression, and anxiety on top of that.

I have to be honest with you…

There is nothing “wrong” with you. There is no such thing as a “bad kid.”

I am here to help you find joy, confidence, and hope, even when if it feels like that’s not possible.

Maybe you’re…

  • Arguing with your parents a lot

  • Using weed to “chill” but you still feel anxious and like you don’t fit in

  • Trying to forget the scary things that have happened to you

  • Saying “No one gets me.”

  • Wake up feeling like the last thing you want to do is get out of bed

  • Self-injuring because it’s the only way you can feel something or not feel so overwhelmed by life…or because you believe you’ve messed up so much that you deserve the pain

  • Always on IG, Snapchat or other apps because you’re afraid you’ll miss out on everything if you take a break

Suzanne’s approach to therapy

Is Suzanne the right fit for my child?

With over 10 years of working with teens and young adults in hospital, residential, and outpatient settings, I provide virtual individual therapy for teens and young adults (ages 12–25) in a safe, non-judgmental space. I specialize in supporting youth who have experienced trauma, have been adopted, or are navigating depression and anxiety. My approach is warm, compassionate, and often includes humor, with the pace set by each young person.

Virtual therapy? What does that look like?

I have found virtual therapy to be very successful with youth, mainly because of its ability to provide increased accessibility and increase the likelihood a young person may attend. I use a lot of creative tools in therapy that are not just talking, including: music, meditation, movement, art, and other creative approaches that make it easier to express and process emotions. All of these can be done well virtually.

I use modalities such as Trauma-Focused CBT, Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC), and Motivational Interviewing to tailor therapy to each youth’s needs.

So are you just going to tell me what to do in therapy?

No, the goals of therapy are set by you. I am not the expert on your life, I am here to help you through the hard things you experience so you’re happier in your relationships and life. In therapy, you get a space that’s just yours. I don’t lecture or judge, and never give therapy homework. We’ll talk, laugh, and work through the stuff that’s weighing you down so you can feel more like you again.

I’m the guardian of the teenager. How involved am I?

Building trust with your child is paramount to the success of the therapy. It is something I have to earn. There are HIPPA guidelines that I will review with everyone prior to starting therapy so there are no surprises, but ultimately, your involvement will depend on each individual’s needs. I typically do at least once monthly calls with the guardian to discuss general areas of the work we’re focusing on, and depending on the situation and age, your child may or may not join.

Together, we focus on helping them feel more connected to themselves, increase their sense of safety, and improve their relationships, while being fully supported along the way.

Do you take insurance?

Yes! I take many insurances in Massachusetts. If I do not take your insurance, I can provide a superbill for you to get reimbursed by your insurance.

My fee is $175 per session.
